Authorities in Haskell County, Oklahoma, are actively searching for an inmate who escaped from a southeastern Oklahoma prison earlier this week.
Robey Butler, aged 36, was serving a six-year sentence at the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester, following a conviction for child neglect in Sequoyah County.
The Haskell County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed to KNWA/FOX24 that Butler briefly took a hostage but later released them unharmed. It is currently believed that Butler is traveling on foot.
Law enforcement agencies have joined forces in the search effort for Butler, focusing on the Red Hill and Keota areas located on the eastern side of Haskell County.


The Haskell County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to KNWA/FOX24 that Butler took a hostage but has since released them. Butler is believed to be on foot.
HCSO officials said that other agencies have joined them in searching for Butler near the Red Hill and Keota area on the eastern side of Haskell County.
The Oklahoma Department of Corrections said he walked away from the prison around 9 p.m. on Feb. 18.
Butler has black hair and blue eyes. He stands 6′ 2″ inches tall and weighs 195 pounds.
HCSO said Butler is considered armed and dangerous, and authorities say if you see him, do not approach him and call 911.
