WARR ACRES, Okla. (KFOR) – Dozens of roosters in a Warr Acres backyard have neighbors telling officials to do something.

“It’s not like there are just a couple of birds; there are a lot of birds,” said one of the neighbors who wanted to remain nameless.

The home is located near Northwest 58th and MacArthur Boulevard. The neighbor speaking out said that he doesn’t necessarily want to get the family in trouble, but felt frustrated that nothing has been done.

“It’s been happening for three years, but in the past year it’s gotten to the point where it’s not bearable anymore,” said the neighbor. “It’s constant. Day and night, at 2 a.m., they’ll be screaming.”

He said that he has reached out to Warr Acres Animal Control, but they haven’t done anything about it.

“I shouldn’t be the one who has to go down to the court and file things and take my neighbors to court, basically,” said the neighbor.

Warr Acres city codes only allow two roosters per plot that is over 1/3 of an acre, and allow 18 chickens with that space too.

Code states that it is a maximum fine in Warr Acres if you break that amount.

In other cities, the codes can be different. Many cities in Oklahoma require permits when it comes to having chickens in the backyard. And many cities also don’t allow roosters at all, let alone more than two.

affiliate KFOR reached out to Animal Control on Friday to find out if they know about the issue. A staff member said that they do and that it is an open investigation. KFOR also tried to get answers from the homeowner, but they weren’t there at the time.

“We just don’t know what else to do because of the noise; it’s irritating. It’s not a pretty bird,” said the neighbor.
