Who are the oldest living US presidents? Trump to break inauguration age record

The entire “Presidents Club” will be at a U.S. inauguration for the first time since President Obama’s first inauguration in 2009.

WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump will set a new record the moment he’s sworn into office on Inauguration Day.

After former President Jimmy Carter’s death in December, outgoing-President Joe Biden became the oldest living U.S. president. He’s also the oldest serving U.S. president, but it’s a record that Trump could break in a few years.

That’s because Trump on Monday will become the oldest U.S. president ever sworn into office. It’s a milestone previously held by Biden, the man who was his successor and now also predecessor, when he was sworn in at age 78 back in 2021.

When Biden’s presidency ends on Monday, he will be 82 years and 2 months (or 30,012 days) old. Trump would break that record of being the oldest serving U.S. president toward the end of his second term on Aug. 15, 2028.

Who are the five living presidents?

After Biden and Trump, the next oldest living presidents are George W. Bush (78), Bill Clinton (78) and Barack Obama (63).

Jimmy Carter’s funeral earlier this month was the first time in more than six years that all living U.S. presidents, sometimes referred to as the “Presidents Club,” were in the same place at the same time.

Monday’s festivities will be the first presidential inauguration featuring all of the living men who also held that office since President Obama’s first inauguration in 2009.

During Obama’s second inauguration in 2013, both ex-presidents named Bush didn’t attend. In 2017, George H.W. Bush missed Trump’s first inauguration due to his age and health.

In 2021, then-outgoing President Trump skipped his successor’s inauguration. The Carters were also not in attendance to see Biden take the Oath of Office, due to the couple’s health and concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.

While all the ex-Presidents will be in attendance, former first lady Michelle Obama will not be there. No explanation was given for why Michelle Obama was skipping Trump’s inauguration. She also did not attend last week’s state funeral in Washington for former President Jimmy Carter.
