Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) on Monday touted the endorsements of current and former Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) members in his Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair bid.

“I am honored to announce that former Secretary Marcia Fudge, Rep. Bennie Thompson, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, and [CBC Institute] Board Member Lacy Johnson have endorsed our campaign for DNC Chair,” O’Malley said in a post on the social platform X.

“They are proven winners, and together, we will reengage, reconnect, and rebuild our party,” he added.

O’Malley’s post also featured a statement from Fudge, Thompson, Cleaver and Johnson in which they said “Democrats are at a crossroads and we need a change agent now.”

“Gov. O’Malley is a proven operational leader that will unite our party, solve tough problems, and lead with moral clarity,” they added. “As someone that has run for office and served at every level of government he knows how to reconnect our party to the issues facing voters. We’re proud to back his campaign and remain committed to the work of building a party that wins at every level.”

Fudge and Cleaver are both former chairs of the CBC, while Thompson is a current member.

O’Malley, who also recently served as the commissioner of the Social Security Administration, launched his bid for DNC chair in November.

“We must connect our Party with the most important place in America the kitchen table of every family’s home,” O’Malley said on X the day he launched his bid.

“Jobs, Opportunity, and Economic Security for all. Getting things done. Hope. A 50 state strategy. Now.”

In an interview late last month with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki, O’Malley referred to himself as the candidate who is probably one of the “best operational turnaround leaders” in Democrats’ history.

“It is a change-maker election, and we need to make some changes if we’re going to win,” O’Malley said at the time.
