The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said occupants in a dark-colored vehicle opened fire on the victims. The shooting led to multiple lanes being shut down for hours.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Four people were shot — one of whom later died — while driving eastbound on I-10 in Jacksonville on Thursday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Sgt. J. Catir said a woman called 911 around 7:45 p.m., saying she had been shot in the area of I-10 East and I-95 North.

When officers responded to the scene, Catir said they found three men and one woman, all of whom had been shot.

Catir said members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the scene and treated one man on scene, while the other victims were taken to a local hospital. One of the men taken to the hospital died after arriving, according to Catir.

Catir said the four victims were driving eastbound on I-10 when words were exchanged between them and individuals inside of an unknown dark-colored vehicle, leading to the victims being shot at multiple times.

Catir said a fifth person, a child, was also in the victims’ vehicle.

“At this time, we do not know the relationship of the parties involved, nor do we know the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” Catir told First Coast News. “Due to this, this case will be in a pending classification as we continue to conduct a thorough investigation while coordinating our efforts with the Medical Examiner’s Office.”

JSO had the road shut down at the I-10/I-95 split on I-95 South and the Downtown exit side. It was also closed from the I-10 exit onto I-95 South to the I-95 Northbound exit to Forest Street.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
