AUSTIN (KXAN) One person died in a crash between a vehicle and an Amtrak train in central Texas on Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media shortly before 11 a.m. that there was a “major accident involving an Amtrak Train and Vehicle.”
The incident occurred near Round Rock, a suburb of Austin. Amtrak said via email that the train was traveling from San Antonio to Chicago when it “came into contact with a vehicle.”
A Union Pacific police officer told affiliate KXAN the crash happened on Union Pacific property at a private crossing, and that one person was confirmed to have died.
According to Amtrak, there were no initial reports of injuries to the 71 passengers and crew members on board the train. Amtrak said it would work with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.
Amtrak said the train was delayed at the scene.
The sheriff’s office said in the post that the Texas Department of Public Safety was working the accident. KXAN reached out to the sheriff’s office and DPS to request more information. The Hutto Police Department told KXAN it had officers assisting with the incident.
