A chilling video has surfaced, capturing an individual clad in Ku Klux Klan attire meandering through the heart of a serene Rhode Island town under the cover of night.
The unsettling footage shows the hooded figure making their solitary way along Main Street in West Warwick around 2 a.m. on Monday. Local authorities have since launched an investigation, as reported by WJAR.
Ryan Fitzgerald and his brother, who were driving through the area, managed to capture the incident on video near the Main Street gazebo, leaving them with no doubt about the nature of the disturbing costume.
“When you see a pointed hood and two eyes peering at you, what else could it be?” Fitzgerald remarked. “It wasn’t the Boogieman; it was unmistakably the KKK.”
Fitzgerald expressed his disbelief, noting, “It’s strange because, while I’m aware of racism in the area, I’ve never seen anything like this. This is an entirely different level of hate.”
At one point, Fitzgerald said, the robed person looked directly at them — and they immediately took off, not knowing if he could be armed.
“[We] were just like, ‘Holy crap, I gotta get the hell out of here,’” he said.
The video has since spread across social media and has spooked the quiet community, located about 13 miles south of Providence.
Leslie Letourneau, owner of Candy’s Curiosities & Vintage, also captured the costumed character on her business’s surveillance footage and called the police.
“It was really upsetting to think somebody would walk around like that period … and then it felt personal when it was in my store or in front of my store,” Letourneau said.
“It churned my stomach to watch that,” she added.
Town officials confirmed that police are investigating the incident but provided no additional details.
