Packers make curious practice change while dealing with Jordan Love injury concern

The Eagles are not the only team dealing with quarterback uncertainty entering the playoffs.

Jordan Love, the quarterback for the Packers, expressed his hopefulness about playing in Sunday’s game against Philadelphia despite dealing with a right elbow injury that limited his participation in Wednesday’s practice.

Green Bay took the unusual step of cutting off media access after warm-ups and before individual drills, a time when reporters can usually watch Love throw, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“Just based on my hand, getting back to it,” Love said of being a limited participant limited Wednesday.

While the situation is not critical yet, the Packers were alarmed in Week 18 when Love had to leave the game against the Bears after injuring his elbow while making a throw.

Love later said he experienced numbness in his throwing hand, though coach Matt LaFleur said his franchise quarterback could have re-entered the game if needed.

Love noted the numbness went away by the next day and his grip felt fine Wednesday, with elbow soreness being more of the issue Wednesday.

He even noted that it still hurts him when he throws and added that he will wait until later in the week — perhaps Thursday or Friday — when asked if he “let loose” in practice.

LaFleur, providing few details, said that Love threw on a limited basis Wednesday.

“I’ll throw, ya know, my normal” Love said. “I don’t know. I don’t know what you mean by that, sorry.”

Now it’s certainly possible Love is being a bit coy about his status, but it’s notable he did not clearly state he would play Sunday, instead opting for “we’ll see.”

He’s unsure if he will have to wear any padding Sunday, provided he plays.

The Packers are holding as 4.5-point underdogs at DraftKings against the Eagles, showing that the betting community is expecting both Love and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will play Sunday.

Hurts, who missed the final two weeks of the regular season after exiting Week 16 with a concussion, returned to practice Wednesday.

The Eagles beat the Packers, 34-29, in Week 1 in Brazil on a sloppy field, with Love suffering a knee injury that knocked him out for the next two weeks.

“Got to go out there and play our best ball Sunday,” Love said. “You could be undefeated into playoffs and lose your first game, you got to be able to go out there and execute and be at our best.”
