STARKE, Fla. — In a prompt response to a potential threat near Bradford High School, Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith confirmed the arrest of two young men following a concerning incident involving a firearm. Fortunately, the swift actions of local authorities ensured that no students were put in harm’s way.
The situation unfolded on Friday afternoon when a vigilant school district employee observed two individuals in a parking lot adjacent to the school’s tennis courts. These individuals were seen engaging in what appeared to be an exchange of a shotgun, which was partially concealed beneath a towel. The sighting prompted immediate action from law enforcement.
Upon receiving the report, deputies swiftly arrived at the scene. As a precautionary measure, the school was placed on “Shelter in Place” status to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Sheriff Smith emphasized that, at no point, were students in direct danger, and no shots were fired during the incident. The quick intervention led to the arrest of the two suspects, identified as Devin Ramos of Gainesville and Issac Likens of Jacksonville, both 20 years old.
Further investigation revealed that Ramos and Likens were allegedly in the area to facilitate the exchange of the shotgun, which was intended to be traded to a third individual residing in Duval County. The pair initially planned to meet at a local convenience store but decided to relocate due to the crowded environment. Their relocation brought them near the school, inadvertently sparking the alert.
Sheriff Smith praised the coordinated efforts of the school staff and deputies, which effectively neutralized any potential threat and ensured the continued safety of the community.
Both Ramos and Liken were charged with felony possession of a firearm on school property and misdemeanor disruption of a school function. They are currently held without bond.
