Palestinian professor makes sick joke about Hamas baking a baby

A lauded Palestinian professor sparked fury by tweeting a warped joke about claims Hamas terrorists baked an Israeli baby to death in an oven.

Gaza-based professor Refaat Alareer – who was once glorified by the New York Times – responded to a paramedic’s testimony that they’d found an infant who’d been cooked to death by tweeting: ‘With or without baking powder?.’

He was replying to another tweet from journalist Dovid Efune which said: ‘A baby was found in an oven, baked to death by Hamas terrorists, leading Israeli first responder @EliBeerUh recounted to an @RJC gathering last night.

‘His group was among the first to respond to and witness the Oct 7 atrocities’

Paramedic Eli Beer operates United Hatzalah, a medical volunteer organization headquartered in Jerusalem that is now assisting IDF in treating survivors and victims of the war.

The RJC referred to in Efune’s tweet is the Republican Jewish Commission, a group of conservative US-based Jews.

In an impassioned speech on Saturday at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s Annual Leaders Summit in Las Vegas on Friday, he described the horrors of what paramedics saw when they responded to the Hamas attack.

‘We saw a little baby in an oven. These bastards put a little baby in the oven and put on the oven.

‘We found the kid a few hours later,’ he said, warning the audience: ‘These are not regular enemies.’

A video of his remarks was shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, where pro-Palestinian commentators dismissed it as ‘Zionist propaganda’.

Among them was Alareer, a Gaza-based professor who responded to the oven story by asking: ‘With or without baking powder?’

In another tweet, he went on: ‘New Zionist propaganda just dropped. What’s next, Hamas ate the Jews?’

Alareer, who has previously described all Jews as ‘evil’, was published by The New York Times in May 2021.

His guest essay, titled ‘My Child Asks, ‘Can Israel Destroy Our Building if the Power Is Out?’, detailed the many years of Israeli strikes that he says killed members of his family and his wife’s family.

He spoke of his love of and fear for his six children, and tenderly recalled reading them bedtime stories trying to distract them from the atrocities of war.

He was also featured in a glowing article in the newspaper in November 2021.

Reporter Patrick Kingsley called him an unlikely ‘champion of Hebrew poetry’ and presented him as open-minded and peaceful.

The paper’s editorial board added a comment after publication admitting he had been portrayed in a way that was not ‘complete’.

Beer met with President Biden during his visit to Israel on October 18. His humanitarian organization also delivers aid in disaster zones

Earlier this year, before the Hamas attack on October 7, he was due to appear at UPenn for a Palestinian literary festival.

Students protested given his anti-Semitic writings and he was removed from the speaker panel.

Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, who has been widely condemned for his remarks about Jews, was also due to speak at the event.

Beer, the paramedic who spoke graphically of what he saw, met with President Biden during his visit to Israel on October 18.

The humanitarian organization also delivered aid to Moroccan villages affected by the devastating  earthquake earlier this year.

Since the war began on October 7, Hamas and its supporters have tried relentlessly to dismiss and discredit testimony of some of its militants most brutal acts.

First, there was widespread disagreement over a contested story that some paramedics found beheaded babies.

Beer insists it is true and Biden said he had seen photos to corroborate the claims. A morgue worker also told DailyMail.com that Hamas had beheaded an unborn baby after ripping it from its mother’s womb.

The origins of a rocket strike on a hospital in Gaza was also widely contested.

Both the US and Israel say Islamic Jihad are to blame, and that they misfired a missile that struck the hospital and its parking lot.

Hamas claims Israel launched the strike and killed 500 civilians as a result.
