In the early 2000s, a certain celebrity alliance symbolized a peak in pop culture. For Kevin Federline, however, it represented something entirely different.

In his recently released memoir, “You Thought You Knew,” Federline reflects on his time as Britney Spears’ husband, revealing that her ties with two prominent Hollywood figures led him to believe she prioritized nightlife over nurturing their family.

“While I was in Miami focused on work commitments, I received a call,” recounted Federline, now 47. He shares two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, with Spears, whom he was married to from 2004 to 2007.

Federline recalled, “It was Britney, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan on the phone, all clearly intoxicated, urging me to join them.”

The former dancer, who has recently clashed with Britney’s other ex-husband, Sam Asghari, during his book’s promotion, explained that hearing his sons in distress made him realize he needed to step in.

‘I could hear Preston and Jayden crying in the background,’ Federline said. ‘It had to be three or four in the morning. That call was the final straw.’

Federline said the fateful call hadn’t marked the first time the Grammy-winning singer, 43, had demonstrated a lack of responsibility, judgment and common sense when it came to their two boys.

‘I’d already seen the photos in the tabloids, the ones of her out with them all night, partying at Paris’s Malibu place,’ Federline said.

Federline said that literally hearing his sons in distress essentially marked the beginning of the end of his relationship with Spears, who has had a stormy relationship with both of her now-adult sons in recent years.

‘Hearing my kids crying while she was doing God-knows-what?’ the dad-of-six said. ‘That was it.’

Federline said any ‘sliver of hope’ he and Britney ‘might still somehow pull it together for the kids, died right then.’

Federline was wed to the …Baby One More Time songstress from 2004 thru 2007, and they share sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19. Asghari and Spears were wed for more than a year before separating. 

Federline is also father to daughter Kori, 23, and son Kaleb, 21, with actress Shar Jackson, 49; and two daughters Jordan, 14, and Peyton, 11, with his wife, former volleyball player Victoria Prince, 42. 

Federline told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday that he had the full support of his six children in putting out the book.

‘My kids are 100 percent behind me telling my story, which is a big reason why I waited,’ he said. 

Federline added, ‘I wanted to make sure that they fully understood why I was doing this and wanted to make sure that they were all on board.’

Federline denied rumors he relocated to Hawaii in an effort to prolong his child support for his two sons, explaining that the move had no legal impact on his finances.

‘That, to me, right there, is like, just ridiculousness,’ Federline said. ‘Anybody that knows like California governs everything that happened with my kids, my custody, my divorce, all of that.’

Spears pushed back on Federline in a post on X/Twitter Wednesday night, in which she addressed his words in the book, as well as her relationship with their two children.

‘The constant gaslighting from ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting,’ Spears said. ‘I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys. 

‘Relationships with teenage boys is complex.’

The pop superstar said she felt like she had exhausted every option in trying to rebuild her relationships with her sons.

‘I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life,’ Spears said. ‘Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by own father for me.’

Spears said of her sons ‘need to take responsibility for themselves’ as young adults, adding that she will always love them.

Spears added, ‘I have pride too … from now on I will let them know when I am available.’

Federline said in a news release of his upcoming book, ‘I achieved my biggest dreams, dealt with crushing heartbreak and endured constant ridicule, all while becoming the father my children needed as they experienced non-stop emotional turbulence.’

He added that ‘if you’ve ever had questions, you’ll find answers here.’
