The sheriff’s office said the suspect has already served two previous prison terms for the sale of drugs.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Putnam County deputies arrested a man after finding trafficking amounts of fentanyl hidden inside a fake dictionary in his car, the sheriff’s office said Friday.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on 45-year-old Samuel Shorter Monday evening after they said he crossed the double line in the road and almost struck a vehicle head-on.

The sheriff’s office said Shorter eventually stopped the car in the middle of the road on Roselle Avenue near Silver Lake Drive in Palatka. Shorter was placed in a patrol car while deputies searched his vehicle.

The search resulted in the discovery of 34 grams of marijuana, a scale and a dictionary. Inside the dictionary, deputies found a hollow hiding lace that contained six grams of fentanyl, four grams of methamphetamine and a white substance “that appeared to be cocaine,” the sheriff’s office said.

Shorter was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding police, resisting without violence and various drug charges. He was transported to the Putnam County Jail without bond.

The sheriff’s office said Shorter has previously served two prison terms for the sale of drugs.
