The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says 18-year-old Larry Kirkland ran away from Brunswick officers after they identified him in being involved in a shooting.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A Brunswick teen was hospitalized Wednesday after being shot at by an officer, and is facing charges for being involved in a shooting at a Brunswick home prior to being shot at, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

Larry Kirkland, 18, was taken to a hospital in Brunswick with non-life-threatening injuries after the GBI says he ran away from officers with the police department following the shooting at a home on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

After the shooting, the GBI says Kirkland left the home, but was “quickly located” by officers, which is when police say he ran away.

The GBI says the chase ended in the yard of a home in the 2700 block of Wolfe Street. Officers gave commands and attempted to arrest Kirkland. While attempting to arrest him, the officers saw a gun; one deployed a taser, and another one shot at him, GBI said.

No officers were injured in the incident, according to the release.

The GBI says it is independently investigating the shooting “at the request of the Brunswick Police Department.” Once complete, the case file will be given to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
