The incident happened at Normandy Estates Mobile Home Park, located at 8985 Normandy Blvd. JSO said the man attacked the officer’s vehicle.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was shot and killed by a Jacksonville sheriff’s officer Sunday at a mobile home park on the city’s Westside after the man attacked the officer’s vehicle and charged at them, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Chief Alan Parker said officers were called out to the mobile home park, which is called Normandy Estates Mobile Home Park and located at 8985 Normandy Blvd., after the man and his girlfriend got into a dispute.

When an officer arrived, Parker said the man attacked the officer’s vehicle.

“He’s banging on it, may or may not have thrown something at it, that’s all part of what they’re looking at,” Parker said about the man. “He got up on the hood at one point, banging on the hood.”

Parker said the officer then reversed his vehicle, as the man “continued his aggressive act.”

The officer then put his vehicle in drive, pulled forward and pushed the man into a yard with his vehicle, according to Parker.

Afterward, Parker said the officer got out of the vehicle with his gun drawn, as the man then “charged” at the officer.

Parker said the man told the officer, “Go ahead and kill me” repeatedly.

When the man charged at the officer, according to Parker, the officer fired several shots, striking the man.

Afterward, the man was given medical treatment by the officer after the officer was able to “safely secure him,” Parker said.

Then, Parker said the man was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Parker said the man has an “extensive drug history” and “had an overdose” within the past week.
