The two students fired off texts threatening each other, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. When one reported the other, they were both arrested.

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Two Flagler Palm Coast High School students have been arrested for sending each other threats in a group chat, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Wednesday.

FCSO said the arrests stemmed from a series of messages including one reading: “i sent a bomb to your house and its going to (expletive) explode in 13 seconds you sons of (expletive)s.”

Two students — a 17-year-old girl who will not be named due to her age, and 18-year-old Jakari Hughes — were arrested Tuesday for texts they sent that constituted threats of violence violating the law, FCSO said.

Hughes threatened to beat up the 17-year-old in a group chat she was not included in; however, she was with a friend who showed her the message, FCSO said. She took the friend’s phone and replied with the threat to bomb his house; Hughes responded with more threats, but the 17-year-old did not see it because she was not in the chat.

The next day, Hughes pushed the 17-year-old in the hall, and then a few days later, she found out about the additional threats in the group chat; she then told school officials, FCSO said.

After interviewing all the students involved, school resource deputies determined that both Hughes and the 17-year-old broke the law, according to the press release.

The girl was arrested for written or electronic threat to conduct a mass shooting or terrorism act due to her text in which she stated she sent a bomb to a residence. Hughes was arrested for written or electronic threat to kill or do bodily harm. Both were transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. The 17-year-old girl was turned over to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, while Hughes was later released on a $1,000 bond.
