Since September, the Powerball jackpot has been steadily climbing, following the last major win that saw two lucky ticket holders share the second-largest prize in the game’s history.

WASHINGTON — The Powerball jackpot has now reached an estimated $490 million, with a cash payout option of $228.9 million, set for Monday night’s draw.

The jackpot’s increase comes after no tickets matched all six numbers in Saturday’s drawing, leaving the grand prize unclaimed.

This series of rollovers began after the September 6 drawing, when two winning tickets sold in Missouri and Texas matched all the numbers needed to secure a $1.8 billion jackpot—one of the most substantial lottery wins ever recorded in the United States.

While the Powerball prize approaches the half-billion mark, the Mega Millions jackpot is also on the rise, with a massive $900 million prize available for Tuesday’s drawing.
