Powerful Magnitude 6 Earthquake Shakes Hawaii’s Big Island

A significant earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 rattled the area near Honaunau-Napoopoo on Hawaii’s Big Island late Friday, prompting the state’s volcano observatory to evaluate the condition of the Kilauea volcano, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Kilauea, renowned as one of the planet’s most active volcanoes, resides on Hawaii’s Big Island.

This volcano has been experiencing intermittent eruptions since December 23, 2024.

The tremors from the earthquake were widely felt across the islands of Hawaii, Maui, and Oahu, with the seismic activity occurring at a depth of approximately 14 miles, according to the USGS.
