In observance of Presidents Day, several institutions, including government offices, the stock market, and schools, will remain closed on Monday. However, shoppers will find that most major retailers continue to operate as usual.
To avoid any inconvenience, it’s always a good idea to check in advance. You can either call the store directly or search online for specific operational hours in your area.

Here’s a quick guide to what’s open and closed on Presidents Day 2026:
Government offices
Both federal and state government offices will not be in service, and this closure extends to the courts and most educational institutions.
Officially recognized as Washington’s Birthday in honor of the first U.S. president, George Washington, the holiday has commonly come to be known as Presidents Day. Some advocate for its recognition of President Abraham Lincoln as well, given that his birthday is on February 12.
Banks and the stock market
U.S. stock markets and banks are closed Monday but will reopen on Tuesday.
Retailers
Most big stores and other businesses are open.
National parks
National parks are open and free to U.S. residents on Presidents Day. Late last year, the National Park Service announced that admission would no longer be free on Martin Luther King Day and Juneteenth, but instead on June 14, which is Flag Day and President Donald Trump’s birthday. But it is still free on other holidays including Presidents Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day weekend.
