In a significant legislative move, a new bill has been introduced in Florida that could change the landscape of healthcare for minors. Senator Erin Grall (R) has put forward SB 166, a proposal that would mandate parental consent for minors seeking treatment for specific sexually transmitted diseases.

This bill, if enacted, would also restrict healthcare providers from offering information or services related to maternal health or contraception to minors without the explicit permission of a parent or legal guardian. The legislation includes scenarios where, according to a physician’s judgment, the lack of such services could pose a probable health risk to the minor.
