Anti-ICE protests in LA expand to New York, Chicago

() Anti-ICE protesters in Los Angeles have entered their fifth day, spreading into other U.S. cities, including Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Denver, Portland and New York. The protests over immigration enforcement prompted President Donald Trump to deploy National Guard troops.

After federal immigration authorities arrested more than 40 people Friday across Los Angeles, protesters gathered outside a federal detention center demanding their release before police in riot gear tossed tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd.

Mayor Karen Bass said that arrests have surged in recent days 27 on Saturday, 40 on Sunday, 114 on Monday and 197 already as of Tuesday afternoon in Los Angeles.

The ICE operations are part of the Trump administration’s renewed focus on workplace enforcement as part of broader immigration crackdowns. Such operations have become flashpoints for protests, with critics arguing they separate families and damage communities while supporters say they’re necessary to enforce immigration law and protect American workers.
