The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has announced that breaking the burn ban is considered a second-degree misdemeanor.
PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — On Monday, Putnam County officials implemented a burn ban due to severe cold and dry weather conditions. This measure is part of efforts to prevent potential fire hazards.
In a Facebook announcement, the Putnam County Commission declared a “state of local emergency” focused on reducing the risk of forestry and brush fires in the area.
Authorities have specified that the ban restricts all outdoor burning activities except for using outdoor grills for cooking and commercial land clearing, which requires approval from the Florida Forest Service.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has warned that violators of this ban may face charges of a second-degree misdemeanor, which could result in up to 60 days of imprisonment.
“We want to remind everyone that several homes were threatened this weekend due to brush fires and evacuations had to occur until the fire was under control,” officials say. “We need everyone’s cooperation to lower the danger of fires in our community.”
