A wildfire spanning 30 acres was reported as 90% contained by Thursday evening, after posing a threat to 25 homes in the vicinity of East Bannerville Road, just north of Bardin.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Forest Service (FFS) announced that on Thursday, they collaborated with Putnam County Fire Rescue to tackle a significant wildfire covering 30 acres.

The FFS noted that the East Bannerville Fire, situated north of Bardin, displayed “erratic fire behavior,” with embers spreading unpredictably and endangering 25 residences at one stage.

Thanks to the swift action of wildland firefighters, spot fires were quickly managed, and containment lines were successfully established around the blaze. The FFS confirmed that no homes sustained damage and are no longer at risk.

Locals and travelers in the area should anticipate smoky conditions. Signs warning of smoke have been requested for State Road 100 westbound and northbound at County Road 309C, as well as eastbound and southbound at Q.I. Roberts School and Holloway Road.

According to FFS, the fire was 90% contained Thursday evening.

Unincorporated Putnam County is under a burn ban through at least Feb. 17 due to continued dry conditions and elevated wildfire risk. No open burning is allowed.
