Bill Belichick is losing a pair of UNC football players to the transfer portal — including a quarterback who just arrived to the program in December.

After just four months of leaving Purdue, quarterback Ryan Browne finds himself back in the transfer portal. This comes as the North Carolina Tar Heels show interest in Gio Lopez, the quarterback from South Alabama who recently entered the portal.

UNC is also losing defensive lineman Beau Atkinson, according to multiple reports.

Atkinson recorded a team-high 7.5 sacks during the 2024 season.

Bill Belichick has been actively participating in spring practices as he prepares for his debut season with the University of North Carolina. Belichick made headlines when he joined the school in December, marking a significant shift in his career after departing from the New England Patriots.

At 73 years old, Belichick opted not to pursue another NFL coaching opportunity after the end of the 2023 season. Instead, he ventured into the media world in 2024 before eventually making the transition to college football. Accompanying him in this new journey is his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, who is said to be taking on a significant role in representing him in various capacities.

In February, ESPN ranked North Carolina’s recruiting class 45th in the nation for this year and labeled the Tar Heels as the “biggest riser,” having added 17 incoming freshman plus two transfers.

It was considered a major win that Belichick was able to convince previous high school commit Bryce Baker, a top-200 quarterback, to stay with the program.

Last month, NFL great Larry Fitzgerald’s son Devin, also a wide receiver, said he was offered a scholarship by Belichick.
