A significant bear sighting triggered an extensive police presence in a Sunland neighborhood on Saturday.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the bear was initially spotted close to Wheatland Avenue before making its way towards Dale Avenue.
Authorities indicated that while the bear is thought to have moved away from the homes, officers remained in the vicinity to monitor the situation should the animal return.
“He’s quite a big boy!” remarked local resident Cindy Frith-Smith, who filmed the encounter and shared it with ABC Eyewitness News. “Oh mom, he’s climbing up the tree!”
“I was thrilled, and although they kept urging me to go back inside, I couldn’t resist watching the bear,” she continued.
Even some kids saw the furry beast.
“I’ve never seen this. This is crazy. How did it just randomly get here?” said Bobby Avakin.
“I was like, ‘It’s so cute,’” Sawyer Laney said.
