PITTSBURGH — In their ongoing effort to rejuvenate the team, the Rangers have set their sights on acquiring players with significant potential, marking their first move on the waiver front this Saturday.

Defenseman Vincent Iorio will be joining the New York squad after being claimed off waivers from the Sharks, as announced by the team.

The 23-year-old brings with him the experience of 30 NHL games and is recognized for his promise as a dynamic right-handed defenseman.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 220 pounds, Iorio adds an intriguing element to the Rangers’ defensive lineup.

This acquisition follows closely on the heels of the recent trade that sent defenseman Carson Soucy to the Islanders.

In anticipation of more trades before the March 6 trade deadline, which could include the departure of another member of the back end in Braden Schneider, the Rangers filled an expected need.

Drafted 55th overall by the Capitals in 2021, Iorio registered a career high and skated in 21 games for the Sharks this season.

He only appeared in nine contests over two seasons for the Capitals before the organization waived him in October.

During the 2024-25 AHL season, Iorio’s 20 points in 67 games with the San Jose Barracuda ranked third among his fellow D-men.
