In a strategic move that has caught the attention of the NFL community, the Baltimore Ravens have officially appointed Declan Doyle as their new offensive coordinator. This development, first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, is seen as a bold step by the Ravens in shaping their future offensive strategies.

Doyle, at the youthful age of 29, shares the same birth year as the team’s star quarterback, Lamar Jackson. This appointment makes him the youngest offensive play-caller in the league, showcasing a fresh and dynamic approach the Ravens are keen to embrace. Previously, Doyle was with the Chicago Bears, where he served as offensive coordinator, though the play-calling duties were handled by head coach Ben Johnson.

The decision to bring Doyle into the fold was made by the Ravens’ new head coach, Jesse Minter, who conducted an interview with Doyle in Baltimore last Friday. Despite Doyle’s relative inexperience in play-calling and his seven-year tenure in NFL coaching, his track record speaks volumes about his potential.

Doyle’s reputation as one of the league’s top young offensive minds was cemented during his time with the Bears. Under his guidance, the team made a remarkable transformation from being the NFL’s worst offense in the 2024 season to ranking sixth the following year. In 2025, the Bears averaged 26 points per game, positioning them ninth in the league, a significant leap from their previous average of 18.2 points per game, which had them languishing at 28th.

Before his impactful stint with the Bears, Doyle honed his skills as the tight ends coach for the Denver Broncos from 2023 to 2024 and gained valuable experience as an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints from 2019 to 2022. With such a promising background, the Ravens are clearly optimistic about what Doyle can bring to their offensive lineup.

Doyle’s challenge will be to get Jackson and the Ravens’ offense back on track. Last season, Jackson averaged 196.1 yards passing and threw 21 touchdown passes, both of which were his fewest since 2022.

When asked Thursday what he wanted in an offensive coordinator, Minter said, “I’m looking for a connector and an innovator, and a scheme builder around the best player in the world.”

This marks the fourth offensive coordinator for Jackson, who is entering his ninth NFL season. But change has worked previously for Jackson, who has produced NFL MVP seasons after the past two times Baltimore hired new offensive coordinators.
