CHICAGO (WLS) — A man was shot on a CTA Red Line train during an argument on Saturday evening, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the South Loop neighborhood’s 1100 block of South State Street just after 8 p.m.

A 35-year-old man was on the train when he got into an argument with a 37-year-old woman, police said. The woman then took out a gun and shot him in the arm and hip.

The Chicago Fire Department said the victim was transported to Northwestern Hospital in stable condition.

The shooter ran from the train platform, but police took her into custody in the nearby 1100 block of South Wabash Avenue.

ABC7 spoke with another rider, Cornelius Kimbrough, who was on the northbound Red Line train in a separate car from where the shooting happened.

“You just heard, ‘Stop!’ Somebody saying, ‘Stop it!’ Then, we heard the K-9s barking, and after that, one of the K-9 officers came toward the front of the train and told everyone to get off the train,” Kimbrough said. “Man, it’s crazy, because it could have been me, and a lot of more people could’ve got hurt, but it’s just shocking to me.”

Video at the scene shows a woman, apparently in handcuffs, outside the station. Police said they found a handgun belonging to the alleged shooter.

Red Line service was temporarily suspended between Fullerton and 63rd Street. The CTA was running shuttle buses for riders, but service was restored at around 9:30 p.m.

But, a lot of riders were inconvenienced, and some are shaken up following that violence on the Red Line.

Area Three detectives are investigating and police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
