Actress Cindyana Santangelo has died, TMZ reports. She was 58.

As reported, Santangelo was taken to the hospital on Monday after emergency responders were called to her Malibu residence. She was declared deceased at the medical facility.

The reason behind her death remains undetermined and is subject to investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide unit. People mentions that this procedure is “routine” when the cause of death isn’t clear. TMZ notes that officers discovered Santangelo had recently received cosmetic injections at her home.

Over the years, Santangelo appeared in various television series, such as Married… with Children, ER, CSI: Miami, and The Bo-Bo & Skippy Show, with the latter being her latest acting credit according to IMDb. Her film career includes work in American Tigers (1996), Tequila Express (2002), and Hollywood Homicide (2003).

Prior to her work in TV and film, Santangelo also made a name for herself in music videos, including as a dancer in Young MC’s “Bust A Move” in 1989 and being the voice at the start of Jane’s Addiction’s 1990 hit “Stop.” Her work in the latter led the band’s frontman, Perry Farrell, to refer to her as “the Latin Marilyn Monroe” while speaking with Spin magazine, per People.

Santangelo had seemingly celebrated a birthday within the last week, per an Instagram post from her friend Cynthia Banuelos. Banuelos also mourned the loss of Santangelo on Tuesday, writing that she is “still in shock and disbelief” by the news.

“How can you be gone???” she wrote, in part. “I will feel your presence in every crashing wave, every salty breeze, and every shimmering reflection of the sun on the ocean’s surface. You were my best friend, my wifey, my kindred spirit. The most gorgeous mermaid in human form. Forever drawn to the sea.”
