Progressive New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is eyeing a run for president in 2028, according to a report Friday.

The socialist member of the “Squad” is preparing for a run at a higher office, expanding her influence both nationwide and within New York, according to people with knowledge of her activities, as reported by Axios on Friday.

Ocasio-Cortez and her team are deciding on whether to run for the White House or the Senate, sources told the outlet.

The New York progressive has teamed up with Sen. Bernie Sanders, a past presidential candidate, on his national “Fighting Oligarchy” tour and has hosted town halls throughout upstate New York during the summer.

This year, Ocasio-Cortez has invested millions in enhancing her social media outreach and compiling a list of potential supporters and contributors to boost her grassroots fundraising capabilities, Axios noted.

The outlet made clear that the 35-year-old lawmaker has yet to make any decision on the future, but her team wants to give her choices.

Some allies reportedly think that even if she doesn’t think she could win the nomination for president, she would run for the White House so the left wing of the Democratic has a stake in the primary – similar to Sanders’ run in 2016.
