Ohio Republican Representative Dave Taylor has expressed strong condemnation after a “vile and deeply inappropriate symbol” was discovered in his congressional office in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for Taylor revealed that the offensive symbol involved an American flag altered to incorporate a swastika.
In an official statement, Taylor addressed the situation by saying, “I am aware of an image that seems to show a vile and deeply inappropriate symbol near an employee in my office.” He emphasized, “The content of that image does not represent the values or standards upheld by this office, my team, or myself, and I denounce it in the strongest possible terms. Upon being informed of this incident, I immediately initiated a comprehensive investigation in collaboration with Capitol Police, which is still underway. No additional comments will be made until the investigation concludes.”
Hegseth’s flight was rerouted due to a windshield crack.
The flag was spotted pinned on a bulletin board behind one of Taylor’s staff during a virtual meeting. The staffer at the desk was Taylor’s legislative correspondent, Angelo Elia, according to POLITICO. Elia has worked in Taylor’s office since January.
Taylor’s office called the presence of the flag an act of “vandalism.”
The matter is being investigated by the Capitol Police.
