JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Prosecutors in the Parkland shooting case are calling for an investigation after a juror claimed they felt threatened by another juror during deliberations, several sources reported. The jury’s decision to reject the death penalty for Nikolas Cruz was read on Thursday after a trial that spanned months.

The state filed a motion asking Judge Elizabeth Scherer to assign law enforcement to interview the juror, according to CNN who obtained the court filing. The filing does not identify the juror or which sentence the juror supported.

The motion by the Broward County State Attorney’s Office was filed on Thursday evening after the jury decision, NBC News reported.

It is unknown at this time if the judge will comply with the prosecution’s request, according to CNN.

The families and loved ones of the victim’s were outspoken about their rage and disappointment after the Judge Scherer read the jury’s recommendation of life in prison.

“This jury failed our families today,” Fred Guttenberg said after the decision was read. His daughter, Jaime, was murdered in the shooting.

All the other families who spoke after the decision was read shared his sentiment.

“He took 17 lives…and now we’ve sent the message out to everyone, ‘It’s fine, get an AR-15’…you’ll get off,” Anne Ramsay. Her daughter Helena was killed during the shooting.

The victim’s loved ones will return to address the judge on November 1 before she officially reads the life sentencing for Cruz. She cannot reverse the decision of the jury.

Cruz was spared the death penalty after being found guilty in the 2018 mass killing at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The massacre left 17 students and teachers dead.
