Texans at ‘forefront’ of border costs: Rep. Gonzales

() U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, a Republican who represents much of Texas’ southern border, says states should be reimbursed for Biden-era immigration policies, and until that happens, he will not vote for the reconciliation package making its way through Washington. And he is calling on other lawmakers to do the same.

“For the last four years, Texans have been at the forefront of this border crisis,” said Gonzales. “Not only were our ranches damaged, not only were there high-speed chases but Americans killed. I’m willing to withhold my vote on this reconciliation package unless that reimbursement is in there, and I think more members should do that.”

Gonzales said a lot of taxpayer money went into the Biden administration’s border actions, and he wants to see them get that money back.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is seeking $11 billion in federal reimbursement for efforts made by the Lone Star State over the last four years as the state continues to build a wall in the Del Rio Sector.

“Trump is the best President EVER at stopping illegal immigration,” Abbott wrote on X. “But that does not mean that Texas will stop securing the border. We continue adding more border wall. We’ve built more border wall than any state in the history of America.”

But that does not mean that Texas will stop securing the border.

Abbott’s office tells they’re hopeful the funding will come.

“Congressional reimbursement for Operation Lone Star is a long process. The Governor is hopeful Texas is reimbursed for holding the line against the Biden Administration’s open border policies and will remain engaged with Congress until it is signed into law,” a statement from his office read.

Abbott’s move comes as local law enforcement tells that talks have been going well when it comes to fixing the wall and that construction should begin soon.
