Donald Trump is encountering significant dissent within the Republican Party following the deaths of three American soldiers in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
In response to the tragic news, Mike Waltz, the US Ambassador to the United Nations, made an unusual remark, stating, “Freedom is never free.”
According to a statement from US Central Command on Sunday morning, three American servicemembers have died, and several others have sustained injuries.
The statement emphasized the evolving nature of the situation, noting, “To respect the families involved, we will refrain from releasing additional details, including the identities of the fallen, until 24 hours after the next of kin have been informed.”
Officials have indicated to media sources that the conflict with Iran is anticipated to extend for several weeks. However, President Trump has not specified a precise timeline, although he did mention to CNBC on Sunday that the mission against Iran is “progressing ahead of schedule.”
Following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Tehran has responded by launching a barrage of attacks against US military bases across the Middle East.
Republicans are also beginning to turn on the president’s war agenda as US casualties continue to climb. Longtime Trump supporters are bashing him for running on a campaign to end military conflicts in the Middle East.Â
‘This was absolutely unnecessary and is unacceptable,’ Marjorie Taylor Greene said on X. ‘Trump, Vance, Tulsi, and all of us campaigned on no more foreign wars and regime change. Now, America soldiers are dead.’
Representative Thomas Massie, who has long called out the administration for its handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, wrote, ‘PSA: Bombing a country on the other side of the globe won’t make the Epstein files go away, any more than the Dow going above 50,000 will.’Â

Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries demanded Congress unite to restrict Trump’s war powers.Â
‘Heartbroken by the loss of life of multiple service members in the Middle East,’ Jeffries said. ‘No more American heroes need to die because of a reckless decision to go to war.’
‘Congress must act this week to restrain this President.’
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham meanwhile called on Trump to double down on regime change in Iran following the death of three US troops. Â
‘To make sure that our service members do not sacrifice in vain, we must finish the job,’ he wrote on X. ‘The cause of taking down the largest state sponsor of terrorism, the regime in Iran, is a noble cause and it must be completed. The worst thing that can happen for our military members is for their sacrifice not to count.’
‘It’s imperative we finish the job and sink the mothership of terrorism, the Iranian regime, forever.’
Other top conservative figures have condemned Trump’s Middle East war, including conservative podcasting titan Tucker Carlson.Â
Carlson called Trump’s decision to embroil the US in a war ‘evil and disgusting.’ The former Fox News host famously campaigned for Trump during the 2024 election.Â

Trump famously ran on ending ‘forever wars’ in the Middle East and not allowing the US to become entangled in military conflicts abroad. Â
