() Two dogs were rescued on Valentine’s Day in California after they were tied up and left stranded in rising waters, according to the Galt Police Department.

Officers were called to the Dry Creek Preserve area about an animal cruelty case. The caller told police that two dogs were tied to a leash and stuck on an embankment with water rising quickly around them.

When officers arrived, they heard the dogs barking, but it was difficult to access them due to the flooding in the area. The fire department deployed a water rescue raft and rescued both dogs, a German Shepherd and a Belgian Malinois.

The dogs were taken by the Sacramento County Animal Control to be seen by a vet. The German Shepherd and the Belgian Malinois were scanned for microchips, and officers were able to identify the owner.

The Galt Police Department is investigating and working to locate the owner.
