Georgia Power said more than 400 Georgia Power personnel were in the field in Brunswick on Wednesday.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — With a 6 p.m. – 7 a.m. curfew in place in Glynn County, officials are asking residents to stay inside and off the roads.

Thousands of residents were without power, many telling our First Coast News team they’ve been without power since 2am Wednesday morning. While people waited for power to be restored, some warmed up inside local restaurants and stores.

Chris Antsey is from New Jersey but he and his family spend January and February in St. Simons island. It caught them by surprise to see the weather in Georgia that they left up north.

“It’s a lovely place just to get out of the winter but obviously with that failed on that score,” said Antsey. “It’s unusual. I mean we didn’t expect this weather, so just try to make the best of it.”

Matthew Kent with Georgia Power said more than 400 Georgia Power personnel were in the field in Brunswick on Wednesday trying to restore power for hundreds of residents. Kent told First Coast News power should be restored to residents no later than 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The problem this morning, however, was at the road with the ice and everything. it caused a cause response to be very slow, just getting down on the road and then with all the limbs down blocking the road,” Kent said.

If you’re still experiencing an outage, you can check the estimated restoration time on Georgia power’s outage map.
