Oscar Piastri crashes and is OUT of the grand prix!
An unfortunate incident unfolded during the Australian Grand Prix as an Australian driver collided his McLaren into the wall during the reconnaissance lap, forcing him out of the race.
After misjudging the grip of his cold tires while exiting turn four, he lost control and the car’s rear swerved, leading to the right side of the nose hitting the wall. Fortunately, he emerged from the mishap unharmed.
The crash resulted in significant damage to the front of the vehicle, with the right front wheel being completely shattered. However, the engine and gearbox appear to have escaped harm.
“Did something happen? Or did he just break down?” questioned teammate Lando Norris.
“He lost it on the exit kerb at turn four during a gear shift,” came the explanation from the pit crew.
