WILLIAMSTOWN, N.J. — Rex, the wandering wallaby from Williamstown, has been joyfully reunited with his owners.

The team at Lots of Love Farm announced that their three-year-old wallaby was located on Tuesday evening, close to the Walmart where he was last seen.

“Tonight just turned into the best night ever! Thanks to some awesome kids and an amazing dad, we managed to catch Rex at the Walmart! He’s back home safe and sound! We appreciate everyone; you’re all incredible. Seems like Rex has a thing for Walmart,” shared Lots of Love Farm in a Facebook update.

Among those who encountered Rex was Klarissa Harper from Franklinville, as she was shopping at Walmart on Monday.

“I was just here to grab milk for my little brother, sent by my mom,” Harper explained. “As I was leaving the parking lot, I glanced over and saw something hopping right in front of my car.”

Harper said she immediately grabbed her phone, thinking she must be seeing things.

“I couldn’t contain my excitement for this whatever – like it’s a kangaroo,” she said.

It wasn’t a kangaroo, but Rex, which escaped from Lots of Love Farm, a petting zoo and animal sanctuary located about a half-mile away.

“Everybody sees a goat. Not too many people see a wallaby,” said owner Ron Layden.

Layden said Rex had been moved to a different enclosure because of the cold, but “the cage didn’t get all the way shut.”
