In the vibrant borough of Brooklyn, New Heights is making a profound impact on young lives by blending the love of sports with educational advancement. This organization uses basketball not just as a game, but as a catalyst for personal growth and success beyond the court.

“New Heights was established with the belief that every young person deserves a chance,” explained Ted Smith, the executive director of New Heights. “Our mission is to facilitate opportunities, whether they’re on the basketball court or in the classroom, to help young individuals thrive in life.”

The organization integrates basketball with personal and professional development programs, supporting students regardless of the paths they choose. Their flagship initiative, College Bound, exemplifies how passion for sports can lay the foundation for future success. By providing tutoring, test preparation, college application assistance, campus visits, and more, New Heights is committed to giving underprivileged kids a fighting chance in a challenging environment.

Emphasizing basketball, New Heights offers students more than just an education; it provides them with a sense of belonging and community. Dayo Olowokere, a student-athlete, shared, “I can’t imagine my life without New Heights. It’s integral to who I am today.”

“We’re always looking to grow our family,” Smith said. “If you love basketball, it’s a great tool…use it to better your life.”
