A road rage incident spiraled into a violent altercation on Monday morning in Jacksonville, leaving a man in critical condition, according to information from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The confrontation unfolded after a motorist, angered during a drive, decided to follow another driver to his workplace—a heating and air conditioning company located on Philips Highway. The tense situation escalated into gunfire.
Authorities were alerted to the scene around 7:30 a.m., where they discovered the victim, a man in his early 60s, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency responders quickly transported him to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition, though his prognosis is positive, says JSO Sergeant Richardson.
The investigation revealed that the older man, in a fit of road rage, pursued the suspect, a man in his mid-30s, to his job at Del-Air Heating & Air Conditioning. The confrontation turned heated, and upon the victim exiting his vehicle, the suspect retrieved a handgun and fired a shot, hitting the man in the chest.
Swift police action led to the arrest of the suspect later that same day, ensuring that justice would follow this unfortunate encounter.
