Rosie O’Donnell has revealed her decision to move across the pond to Ireland –  because she cannot stand living in Donald Trump’s America.

The outspoken actress and comedian with strong liberal views, known for her vocal opposition to the conservative President, recently shared a nine-minute video updating her followers on her new life abroad.

In the video, the 62-year-old revealed that she succumbed to the pressure and decided to leave the United States due to her inability to bear living there under the Trump administration. She made the move on January 15, just days before the presidential inauguration.

Despite expressing that she is enjoying her time in Ireland, the avid Trump critic mentioned to her 2.5 million followers that she already feels a sense of longing for certain aspects of life in the U.S.

She said: ‘It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming. And I’m very grateful.’

She noted that leaving the States was something she never expected to happen in her life, adding: ‘I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are.’

Rosie, who has been a vocal President Trump critic over the years, admitted she is already missing many elements of her life in America as she continued: ‘You know, I’m happy. Clay is happy. I miss my other kids. I miss my friends. 

‘I miss many things about life there at home and I’m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country.’

Opening up about what could see her return to her home, she added: ‘And when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back.’ 

Rosie then noted the changes being made in the country since Trump took office and added: ‘It’s been heartbreaking to see what’s happening politically and hard for me personally as well. The personal is political, as we all know.’

Indeed, Rosie made it clear she was currently happy with her decision and explained that everyone in Dublin was ‘friendly,’ and she had ‘met a bunch of people’ over the past two months.

She noted that fans had expressed concern and added: ‘Sorry for those of you who were worried and who missed me. I just felt like we needed to take care of ourselves and make some hard decisions and follow through. 

‘And now as we’re getting settled, I was ready to post this and to tell everybody what’s been going on.’

The star had hinted at the move on Friday, March 7, when she posed for a selfie snap behind the wheel of a car while mentioning how she’s having a difficult time driving on a different side of the road. 

‘Bought a little used car to tool around the countryside on the wrong side of the road,’ she wrote on Instagram, before confessing: ‘Hit the curb three times – thought I hit a cat!!! #newadventures.’

She also showed her daughter Dakota in the backseat of the car with her backpack beside her in another photo on Instagram, which the former host of The View recently made private.

O’Donnell also has four other children, but they are all past the age to go to school. 

Known for her harsh war of words with Trump over the years, even before he became president, the mother of five has been even more vocal to hammer his tough talk and policies in interviews and on social media since he started his first term in 2016.

In one of more recent critiques she shared a video on TikTok of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hugging children and picking them up with a smile on his face.

‘If only the current president had a drop of his caring committed heart #resist #protest #defythem #love #FDT,’ she wrote in the caption.

In December, O’Donnell took to TikTok to bash Time magazine for naming Donald Trump its man of the year for 2024, as reported by The Daily Beast.  

‘Man of the year, Donald Trump. Well, f**k you Time Magazine. F**k you, seriously,’ O’Donnell said. ‘How about most dangerous man of the year? How about most criminal man of the year? How about the worst president we’ve ever had… of the year.’

Rosie becomes the latest celebrity to have move in the wake of Trump being elected to a second term in office.

Among the stars to recently move are actor Richard Gere, who sold his $11 million Connecticut home in November and moved to Madrid, Spain, in part to be closer to his wife’s in-laws, according to Vanity Fair.

Gere, 75, told the outlet he felt it would be a ‘great adventure’ to relocate with Alejandra and their sons Alexander, five, and James, four, ‘because I have never lived full-time outside of the United States.’ 

Former talk show host, comedian, and long-time liberal Ellen DeGeneres, 67, and her wife Portia de Rossi, 52, opted to move to the English countryside in December. 

In a 20th anniversary tribute to her wife DeGeneres wrote how she was ‘so happy we get to travel and explore the world together’ in a selfie snap taken in the UK.
