Royal Drama Unfolds: King Charles Steps Out at London Fashion Week Amidst Prince Andrew’s Arrest Scandal

In a surprising turn of events, Andrew Mountbatten was arrested earlier this morning, casting a shadow over the day’s proceedings. The former duke, who is eighth in line to the British throne, was taken into custody by Thames Valley police on suspicion of misconduct in a public office. His arrest occurred on his 66th birthday, adding an unusual twist to the day’s events.

Meanwhile, King Charles is scheduled to make an appearance at London Fashion Week, continuing with his royal duties despite the arrest news. Earlier in the day, six unmarked vehicles were seen arriving at Wood Farm, the former prince’s residence at Sandringham, at approximately 8 a.m., signaling the gravity of the situation.

The eighth in line to the British throne was arrested by Thames Valley police today on suspicion of misconduct in a public office.  

It came as six unmarked vehicles were seen arriving at Wood Farm, the former Prince’s Sandringham home, at around 8am today. 

Detectives have been investigating his conduct as a UK trade envoy after emails in the Epstein Files appeared to indicate he shared confidential information with the paedophile, including potential investment opportunities as well as his official visits.

In a statement, the monarch has since said ‘the law must take its course’ after expressing his ‘deepest concern over his younger brother’s arrest.  

‘What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities,’ he added.

‘In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.

‘As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.’

It is understood that the Prince and Princess of Wales support the King’s statement following Andrew’s arrest. 

A Thames Valley spokesman said: ‘We have today arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office’.

The force said its officers are searching an address in Norfolk – believed to be Wood Farm where Andrew is exiled – and an address in Berkshire, likely to be Royal Lodge in Windsor, where he lived for more than 20 years until this month.

‘The man remains in police custody at this time’, the spokesman said – but the force would not confirm where Andrew, who is celebrating his birthday today, had been taken.

Norfolk Police said it is ‘supporting’ the Thames Valley investigation but did not say if one of its stations was being used by detectives to interview Andrew.

Thames Valley Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said: ‘Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.

‘It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence.

‘We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.’

Buckingham Palace declined to comment when asked if the King would appear at Fashion Week in the capital city later today.

A royal source described Andrew’s arrest as ‘an unprecedented crisis’ which ‘will cause enormous concern at the Palace.’ They added: ‘They may well have been expecting it.’ 

Meanwhile, questions are brewing about the future of Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson who has been lying low amid growing anger over her links to Jeffrey Epstein. 

It is believed she has recently spending her time in the French Alps with friends before making the move to the United Arab Emirates. 

She has also been spending time with her youngest daughter, Princess Eugenie, 35, who has been in the region for work, attending an art fair in Doha, Qatar, in her role as a director at dealer Hauser and Wirth.

Fergie previously described herself and Andrew as the ‘happiest divorced couple in the world’ as they continued to live at the Royal Lodge while paying ‘peppercorn rent’ for decades after their split. 

And as her future is plunged to further uncertainty amid Andrew’s arrest, a royal source has said she ‘has no future at all’. 

‘She’s shamed and her businesses are closed down, and certainly no charity would touch her and a great deal more will come out. We’re not at the end,’ a source said. 

‘A little quiet and humility would be a good idea but it’s not in her temperament, but this is very serious, and you never know where it could go.’

It comes as a royal source told the Daily Mail that they believed the King’s previous silence suggested he would ‘hide behind the police’ and avoid commenting on the matter.

The insider said the King will not have interfered in any way with the police after an unfounded conspiracy theory suggested he may have ordered his brother’s arrest on his birthday as the ultimate humiliation.

They also pointed out that recent events will be ‘a challenge for William’, insisting the ‘institutions he takes over must be resilient enough to ensure nothing like this will ever occur again’.

‘I think that there will be an insistence from the people, and also from the politicians, that things are handled in a different and less secretive way.’

‘The King cannot apologise at this stage. He’s the fountain of justice, and if he were to apologise, that would imply that before Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor comes to trial, assuming that he does, it would imply guilt. 

‘What you have to do is let the law take its course, because he is the King.’

Elsewhere, Sky News commentator Alistair Bruce described Andrew’s arrest as the ‘worst possible thing for the crown’.

‘To have the King’s brother in this situation with the police now and helping them with their enquiries is about as critical as the institution could have to face, and I think for the King it must be awful.

‘Not least because he is sovereign… it is because he is the person in whose name ultimately police constabulary do their work and now his brother is subject of that judicial process.

‘I think it must be ghastly for the King and all members of the royal family to watch this take place.’ 

Meanwhile, former royal correspondent Charles Rae told GB News that the fallout would ‘reverberate around all sorts of government departments’

He told GB News: ‘The Royal family, everybody is going to be tainted in some fashion or other by this.’

Royal commentator Jennie Bond told Sky News that Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice may be questioning themselves why they had not further probed ‘where their parents got all their money and lavish lifestyle and their friendship group.’

‘But it is difficult for them,’ she added. ‘They are daughters, this is a family, they have thus far been very loyal to both their parents.’

She noted that there had been reports that the Princesses had been finding ‘somewhat difficult to be seen with their parents and had been keeping their distance somewhat.’
