Ryan Yarbrough added to surprising Yankees emergence against Dodgers

LOS ANGELES — Maybe the Yankees finally found the key to beating LA: a junk-balling journeyman throwing at speeds below what they drive on the 405.

And maybe, just maybe, Ryan Yarbrough, the former Dodger, had a little bit of needed inside info.

It seems like a reasonable assumption. How else can we understand his impressive performance of just allowing one run in six innings, especially after the Dodgers had been hitting well against top pitchers like Max Fried, a strong contender for the Cy Young Award, throughout the weekend?

The left-handed pitcher Yarbrough, who has been a pleasant surprise since joining the Yankees, continued to impress by effectively shutting down his former team, which happens to be one of the top teams in baseball and has been a tough opponent for the Yankees lately. Yarbrough utilized a mix of pitches spanning the 60s, 70s, and 80s, relying on unique angles and changing speeds to outplay the potent Dodgers lineup. This performance was crucial for the Yankees as they secured a much-needed 7-3 win in front of a packed Dodger Stadium.
