‘Outlander’ Stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe Reveal Their Favorite Jamie/Claire Kiss Ever: “I Feel There’s a Bite in There Somewhere”

Outlander fans still have a grueling seven days to wait until the Season 7 finale airs on Starz. Throughout the series, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) have proven to be the most loving and passionate couple in television history. Despite facing challenges like time travel, witch trials, and villains, their strong bond has prevailed. Their iconic kisses have captivated viewers over the years, leaving fans eager to know which kiss is the favorite of the series stars.

During a visit to the set of Outlander Season 8 in Scotland, Decider had the opportunity to chat with Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. The burning question on everyone’s minds was, which Jamie/Claire kiss stands out as their favorite from the entire series?

“Oh, I got one,” Balfe said, crossing her arms.

“Ooo, do you?” Heughan asked, still thinking.

“Yeah.”

“I feel there’s a bite in there somewhere,” Heughan said, thinking through all seven seasons (and counting) of kisses.

Caitriona Balfe shared her choice, stating, “I’m going to go with the dance when he was saying goodbye to her. The dance back to the stones and there was a kiss there. That was probably the most romantic thing.” This heartfelt moment resonated with Balfe as one of the most memorable kisses between Jamie and Claire.

Balfe, of course, is referring to Jamie and Claire’s heartbreaking farewell at the end of Outlander Season 2 Episode 13 “Dragonfly in Amber.” A pregnant Claire decides that she must go back to her own time to offer unborn daughter Brianna the best chance of survival. Because Claire is under the impression that Jamie is doomed to die during the impending Battle of Culloden, their goodbye is extra fraught.

After passionate embraces and emotional declarations, Jamie kisses Claire and then dances her to the stones. “The most romantic thing,” indeed.

While Heughan still struggled to nail his down, he wondered aloud, “Do you remember the first kiss?”

“No,” Balfe said.

“I don’t either,” Heughan wondered. “What was the first kiss?”

If Balfe and Heughan couldn’t remember Claire and Jamie’s first kiss off the top of their heads, hopefully hardcore fans will cut them a little slack. Their first onscreen kiss happens early in Outlander Season 1 Episode 7 “The Wedding,” during their wedding night. However, we see later in that same episode, via flashbacks, they already kissed during the marriage ceremony.

What’s your favorite Outlander kiss? Was it one of Balfe or Heughan’s picks? Or are you fixated on yet another intensely romantic Jamie and Claire moment?

The Outlander Season 7 finale will be streaming on Starz on Friday, January 17.
