Police have arrested the suspected gunman involved in two separate shooting incidents in Santa Monica following a citywide search.
The unidentified suspect was taken into custody around 4:20 p.m. at Palisades Park near the intersection of Ocean and Idaho avenues.
Described as “armed and dangerous,” the man was wanted in connection with one shooting that took place over the weekend and an ensuing shooting that happened as police tried to take him into custody Wednesday.

Wednesday’s shooting happened near the Santa Monica Place outdoor shopping center, as Santa Monica Police Department officers attempted to bring the suspect into custody.
Although details are limited, officials confirmed that the suspect opened fire at officers and struck one of them in the hand. That officer was transported to a local hospital with wounds that were not believed to be life-threatening.
That shooting led to a search of the nearby shopping center, as well as portions of downtown Santa Monica.
Santa Monica Mayor Lana Negrete said the suspect is believed to be the same person who shot at a driverless taxi over the weekend, injuring two teen riders.

A 3.5-hour search for the suspect took place through much of the day, ultimately resulting in his arrest at Palisades Park. The suspected weapon, a handgun, was recovered at the scene.
The suspect’s name has not been released. He’s been described only as a transient in the area.
Video from Sky5 in the hours after Wednesday’s shooting showed officers and police dogs combing through city streets in search of the gunman.
The search came as the Police Department released images of the suspect, described as a Black man in his 30s, who was last seen wearing a dark-colored jacket and black pants.

He was considered armed and dangerous, police said, and the public was being told not to approach him. Instead, police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings to 911.
A citizen was credited for spotting the suspect and contacting police.
Santa Monica police said this shooting, as well as Sunday’s Waymo shooting, are currently under investigation.
The two teens injured in that shooting were last listed in stable condition, officials said.
