Savannah airport was evacuated after a bomb threat on Saturday.
SAVANNAH, Ga. — An all clear was given following a bomb threat at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The threat forced a full evacuation of the terminal building and caused major flight delays and traffic shutdowns, according to officials.
In the latest social media post on X from officials, the airport has returned to normal operations. Officials said that passengers should check with their airline for the most up-to-date flight information.
It all started just before 1 p.m., when the airport warned travelers to expect flight disruptions due to a security risk. Officials later told NBC affiliate WSAV that the disruption was caused by a bomb threat.
In another social media post, airport officials said the building was being cleared “out of an abundance of caution.” Passengers were instructed to proceed to the parking garage areas, and all inbound roadway traffic was being rerouted away from the airport.
A viewer told WSAV that several planes were being held on the runway for at least 20 minutes following the announcement.
Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the latest flight status before heading to the airport.
