'9-1-1' season nine preview: Mark Consuelos sends two beloved members of the 118 to space, chaos ensues

“9-1-1” fans, it looks like season nine is going to be out of this world.

Literally.

ABC dropped the trailer for the premiere. Mark Consuelos guest stars as CEO Tripp Hauser, who gets swallowed by a huge whale while kayaking. The 118 is on the scene and rescues Houser, with Hen, played by Aisha Hinds, administering CPR. Hauser calls Hen a hero and says he wants to reward her and offers to send her to space with a guest. Hen asks her wife Karen (Tracie Thoms) but she refuses, so she convinces Athena (Angela Bassett) to go with her.

The rest of the 118 gathers to watch this voyage take place. But as always, things do not go smoothly. Hauser is alerted that a geomagnetic storm is about to begin just as the spaceship is about to launch. His experts advise on scrapping the launch but he goes ahead with it anyway. All contact with the ship is lost due to the storm and chaos on the ground ensues.

On The Red Carpet recently caught up with Ryan Guzman, who plays Eddie.

“There’s always something crazy going on and we’ve got something crazy going on this season too,” he said.

He added that fans need to sufficiently prepare themselves for the first three episodes of this season.

“First one, we’ll kind of ease you into it. Second and third ones you’re definitely clutching your pearls. You’re definitely understanding the weight of the environment we’re in. I’m trying not to give too much away because I really, really want to tell you! But there’s so many things at play. And one of our main leads is going to be in a dire situation,” teased Guzman.

And indeed, at the end of the trailer, we see Hen grabbing for Athena and holding as tightly as she can while Athena drifts up and out of the spaceship. Insert the shocked emoji right here!

“9-1-1” premieres October 9 at 8pm EST / 7pm CST on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of this ABC station.
