The US Secret Service has initiated an investigation into a potentially alarming discovery near Palm Beach International Airport, where President Trump’s Air Force One frequently lands. According to informed sources, a peculiar setup, possibly resembling a sniper’s nest or a hunting stand, was found in a tree with a direct line of sight to the area where the President disembarks from his jet.
This unusual structure, described by law enforcement sources as an odd assembly of pipes, was uncovered on Thursday. Although no ammunition or explosives were discovered in the vicinity, the find has sparked concern among security officials tasked with safeguarding the President’s safety.
At this point, authorities remain uncertain about the true nature of the structure. It could be an innocuous hunting stand, potentially used by local hunters targeting invasive green iguanas, or it might simply be discarded materials caught in the branches. However, the possibility of a more sinister intent has not been ruled out, prompting a thorough investigation by the Secret Service.
Authorities do not know yet whether it is a hunting stand or merely junk in a tree — or has a more nefarious purpose, sources said.
The area could be used by hunters who go after invasive green iguanas, the sources added.
“Prior to the president’s return to West Palm Beach, USSS discovered what appeared to be an elevated hunting stand within sight line of the Air Force One landing zone,” FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News, which first reported the story.
“No individuals were located at the scene,” Patel said. “The FBI has since taken the investigatory lead, flying in resources to collect all evidence from the scene and deploying our cell phone analytics capabilities.”
Trump survived a sniper attack during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, and escaped harm when the Secret Service arrested 59-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh after he fled an apparent sniper spot at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course on Sept. 15.
