WASHINGTON β According to Senator Ted Cruz, the danger posed by international terrorist organizations to Americans has reached its highest level in decades as tensions with Iran escalate, nearing the end of their second week.
Speaking with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday night, Cruz (R-Texas) criticized the Biden administrationβs immigration policies. “Over the past four years under President Biden, we’ve seen open borders,” Cruz remarked.
“Approximately 12 million people have crossed into the country, which essentially serves as an open invitation for terrorists, including those from Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, to enter America,” he added.
His comments came shortly after reports from The California Post and others indicated that the FBI had alerted law enforcement in California about a potential threat. The bureau had received information suggesting that Iran might be planning a surprise drone attack from an unidentified vessel off the U.S. coast, targeting unspecified locations in California if the U.S. were to strike Iran.
As the conflict with Iran continues, various politicians and security experts have expressed concerns about the possibility of Iran activating “sleeper cell” attacks within the United States.
βI donβt know what sleeper cells are in here [if] they activate those,β Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) told The Post Tuesday. βThis was not an easy decision for [President] Trump to make. This was a risky decision for Trump to make. But he had to do it.β
Trump himself told reporters Wednesday that his administration is on the lookout for potential threats to the homeland as war rages half a world away.
βI have been [briefed on Iranian sleeper cells] and a lot of people came in through Biden with his stupid open border, but we know where most of them are,β the president said.
βWe got our eye on all of them, I think.β
Cruz has been supportive of Operation Epic Fury and argued Wednesday that the Israeli strikes that took out late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei improved national security.
βRemoving the Ayatollah makes America much, much safer,β he told CNNβs βState of the Unionβ earlier this month.
The Republican also recently predicted that Trump will keep up the fight with Iran βuntil they get a regime there that is not a radical Islamist regime that is waging war with America.β
