() Sen. Todd Young said he is “looking forward” to making Tulsi Gabbard “successful” as the embattled nominee for director of national intelligence now heads to a full confirmation vote.

Young, an Indiana Republican who was one of the lynchpin votes Gabbard needed to advance to a Senate floor, told on Tuesday that she gave him “the sorts of reassurances I require to be supportive.”

“I’m looking forward to making her successful in this position,” he added.

The Senate Intelligence Committee advanced her nomination in a closed-door vote Tuesday, and it now heads to the full Senate for consideration. The 9-8 vote was along party lines.

Young, whose critical questioning of Gabbard had prompted speculation he might oppose her, confirmed he would back Gabbard in a statement Tuesday.

“I have done what the framers envisioned for senators to do: use the consultative process to seek firm commitments, in this case commitments that will advance our national security,” he wrote in a statement announcing his support for Gabbard.

During Thursday’s confirmation hearing, the Indiana Republican was visibly frustrated after Gabbard refused to call Edward Snowden, the former contractor-turned-leaker who fled the U.S., a “traitor” on multiple occasions. Young said his tough questions for Gabbard were just part of the process.

The senator posted a letter from Gabbard where she agreed to certain commitments he requested from her including “not making any recommendation in a personal or professional capacity regarding the legal standing of Edward Snowden.”
