Server Sparks Outrage After Mocking Customers Who Refuse to Tip

A restaurant server has ignited a fierce debate after sarcastically mocking diners who choose not to tip.

Kalina Isabella recently used TikTok to share her views on America’s heated tipping debate.

Speaking from inside her car, the content creator explained to her 26,000 followers how she believes restaurants should handle gratuities.

“I’m a server in a restaurant, and you know how people are always saying, ‘Tipping culture is ridiculous; tipping shouldn’t be necessary’? I don’t disagree with that at all,” Isabella said.

“Tipping shouldn’t be necessary because it isn’t. People tip for good service, and that doesn’t have to be mandatory.”

She proposed that restaurants tell diners at the start of their meal that a fixed percentage would be added to the bill as an automatic gratuity.

“If you don’t want that, just let us know at the beginning of the meal and we will remove it—absolutely no worries,” Isabella continued.

She then adopted a mocking voice to portray a customer asking for more water. “Yeah, there’s a pitcher over there if you want to get up and go and get it yourself,” she imagined responding.

Isabella offered another example involving a diner who had dropped a fork.

“Yeah, there’s a drawer back there with silverware if you want to go digging around for it,” she said, imitating the response.

She also acted out a customer warning that a meal appeared to contain nuts despite having a peanut allergy. Isabella’s sarcastic reply was: “Communicating allergies to the kitchen is a service that you didn’t pay for.”

She ended the video with another pointed remark: “Give people the option. We should be accommodating all people, all budgets, all dining experiences.”

“Not everybody wants to tip. Not everybody wants good service.”

Her caption added: “Tipping shouldn’t be necessary… unless you want ANY level of service.”

However, Isabella’s scathing take failed to win over viewers, many of whom quickly filled the comments section with criticism.

“Attitude like this makes us not want to tip even more,” one person wrote.

“Not communicating a customer’s food allergies based on whether or not they’re tipping is morally reprehensible,” another commenter said.

“You don’t understand. Decent service is a server’s job and not something that should require an extra fee.”

‘Bringing more water, giving an extra fork and communication with the kitchen is literally the job, what do you think waiters get their money for?’ a third scoffed.

Earlier this year, a nationwide survey found that 78 percent of Americans believe tipping culture has become ‘ridiculous.’

Nearly half also said they have actively cut back on gratuities in 2026 as household budgets come under increasing pressure.

The findings, from restaurant technology company Popmenu, suggest a growing backlash against what many consumers see as relentless requests for extra money on top of already rising prices.

Retail analyst Neil Saunders spoke to the Daily Mail about the findings in June.

He said that consumers are increasingly frustrated by both the size of expected tips and the growing number of situations in which they are asked to leave them.
